"Quite simply, my greatest joy is working with color and intense lighting to create the illusion of three dimensions on a two dimensional surface. Although the items for a painting were selected for their reflective qualities or texture; crystal, pewter and satin, quite subconsciously I chose objects that had deep emotional significance in my life – a goblet I inherited from a grandmother, a tablecloth I received as a wedding gift, etc.. even the flowers themselves were given to me to celebrate a special occasion. I consider each new painting to be a sort of biography in itself. When I look at the hectic pace of our lives I realize, also, that I am creating work to inspire visual tranquility – the creative process itself into which I retreat, and the final product – both are a spiritual journey for me." |
